Eagles Soar into the Playoffs

Move over No. 5. There is a new sheriff in town. No, no, not Jeff Garcia, I am talking about Brian Westbrook. Apparently, the Eagles need Westbrook way more than they miss McNabb. After shellacking the Dallas Cowboys (23-7), in a game that was not as close as the score indicates, the Eagles are now primed to seize the NFC East, a division that they have dominated in the last 4 out of 5 years. Five weeks ago, with McNabb going down for the season, nobody gave the Eagles a whiff of a chance. However, behind the inspired play of Brian Westbrook and a defense that maybe turning from opportunistic to dominant; the Eagles are looking like legitimate contenders.

Over the last 5 games Westbrook has averaged 100 yards per game at an average of 5.1 yards per carry. Gaudy numbers indeed in a pass first team. Conceivably, there is a simpler way to get the ball into Westbrook’s hands instead of moving him all around the football field to create the perfect mismatch. Just hand him the ball!

It is unfortunate that McNabb has to go down for coach Reid to look towards his running game. Hopefully, that is one of the lessons drawn from this season by this coaching staff. A balanced pass-run ratio not only ensures McNabb’s health but also a more effective deployment of one of NFL’s most explosive weapons.

Even if the Eagles are going to lose sooner or later and break my spirit, here I am, investing my heart in one more Eagles season. It is better to have loved and failed than not have loved at all!
